Default Medical Insurance

We have been here 9 months now, and we are starting to think about health insurance before the year is up. Have looked at a few web sites, and can't believe how expensive it is for a family, Can i just choose to take out the extras like Dental and not bother with hospital cover. As what is the difference between medicare and Private. Say for example my son was to fall and break his leg (touch wood he don't) how would having private insurance be different to medicare Can anyone recommend a good health insurance. Have read loads of websites, but they just get to confusing and I'm not sure on what I'm getting.

Would be grateful of any help.

Try this www.iselect.com.au for comparing insurance.

If you break a leg/arm in an accident you would be admitted under Medicare (like NHS) whether you are privte or not, but you could then choose to see the orthopaedic surgeon privately. In Brisbane they are the same doctor but when you go for follow up visits or if you need surgery you will get seen quicker.
