Default Medical Insurance

An interesting article in to days Sunday Mail financial section
(9-Nov-03) regarding medical insurance for ex-pats. Go-Matilda states they can get you cover for about $1000.
But the article states for complete peace of mind you should opt for comprehensive insurance costing £3000 to £4000. What are you views and experiences in this matter?

Also another concern as a potential retiree is as you get progressively older or make a claim the annul renewal premiums rocket to a cost prohibitive level or indeed you are refused cover

John,

I'm not sure you are comparing like with like here (though in saying this I haven't had sight of today's Mail on Sunday).

The health cover I refer to (through Australian Unity) enables you to meet the requirements of the Department of Immigration so you can have a 410 Retirement visa granted. You can add extras to this policy if you want, but the premiums will perhaps inevitably increase accordingly.

I imagine the MoS article is referring to the international health cover that is available from UK health providers, such as BUPA, etc., and which is significantly more expensive that the AusUnity cover, but which might not provide as much cover as AusUnity.

Best regards.
