Default Medical Expenses

Just been doing my tax return. I've been working out my 20% deduction for medical expenses incurred over $1,500.

I worked out that my out of pocket expenses - the gap between the scheduled fee and what doctors and dentists actually charge was $1,950.

If you include my private health premiums that works out as an annual expenditure on doctors and dentists of $4,110 - thats me, the Mrs and 3 kids.

So make sure you budget for that when you come over here.

And here was me thinking that ours was bad. This year was the first time for us to go over the $1,500 limit and we were able to claim a bit back. We don't bother with medical insurance, so our total costs came to $1,650 this year, but we have just 1 child.
