Question medical care on temporary visa?

Hi,
i am currently in oz on a temporary visa. will i be able to get healthcare (ie go to the doctors and get prescriptions) without a medicare card or anything? i presume i would have to pay, but would i be able to just get an appointment as a temporary resident?
any advice welcome!
ps we love it here if anyone is interested, despite the storm howling at the moment!

Dont worry,
the doctor didnt care for the VISA matters, if you dont have a medicare card
you must pay your bills thats all.
But, it is better to have at least a health insurance to cover for this.

Hiya
It doesnt matter whether you are on a Temporary Visa, Visitors Visa or
whatever ..... I am currently on a Visitors Visa in Australia and had
to seek medical attention ..... it cost me $40.00 AUD for the consult
with the Doctor and then $25.00 AUD for my anti-biotics ..... I was
quite amazed at what it cost as I am from USA and it would have cost
alot more over there. Also I love it here too ..... and I am working
on a Skilled Immigration Visa ..... I dont want to leave ....
Australia is a beautiful and wonderful country and the people here are
so nice and friendly ...... and that Aussie word ..... "fairdinkum"
.... i have learnt how to say it!!!!!!! Wooohhhhooooo ... lol ....
