In Australia electricians call domestic electrical sockets GPOs too.
It stands for General Purpose Outlet, I think.

Don't think so. I saw the acornym in the real estate website. They measure the distance of the suburbs to the GPO. e.g. Herne Hill is approx 20km from Perth GPO.
