What about cheques, is there a limit on this without having to declare it?
Do most people use a financial broker to transfer currency to Aus or are you allowed to take it as bankers cheques?

If your money is in the form of a cheque, it does not need to be declared. We arrived with enough cash for a couple of weeks and also a bank cheque for a whole lot more than $10,000. Hub is really uptight about regulations, so he declared it. Customs told us when we landed that there was no need as it's the cash only that they are interested in.
