Maternity Leave in Australia
Having just read a post where "No Maternity" leave was quoted, as one of a few reasons, for not moving to Australia, I looked it up.
According to http://www.workplace.gov.au/workplac...entalleave.htm Paid maternity leave may be provided from a number of sources including federal and State agreements as well as awards. Women working in the public sector generally also have a legislated entitlement to paid maternity leave. A growing number of organisations are using paid parental leave as a means of encouraging women to return to work after maternity leave. It is increasingly being seen as a cost-effective means of attracting and retaining skilled staff. Over 36 per cent of women currently covered by a federal certified agreement have an entitlement to paid maternity leave in their agreement . An increasing number of workplaces are also introducing paid paternity leave. Around 14% of employees on federal certified agreements current at 31 March 2002 had access (subject to eligibility requirements) to paid paternity leave. |

It is also growing, and not by legislation, but by employer choice. I can't see these new changes legislating against it, so the employers who are choosing to offer it, will not stop due to the new laws. |

Hmmmm, what exactly is paid paternity leave? 3 days maybe, a week max. I've heard there is unpaid paternity leave, but can't remember the timescale. JTL |

I've heard there is unpaid paternity leave, but can't remember the timescale. JTL Government departments probably pay the most. |
