We will be moving to Australia on a 176 permanent visa later this year or beginning of next year and we are thinking of starting a family next year. Does anyone know if you are entiteld to receive maternity leave as a new immigrant? How are the regulations?

You will need to have worked in Australia before having the child, for about a year I think. Most employers will not pay maternity pay until youhave been there about a year too.

Even if you dont qualify for the parental leave, you might still qualify for the baby bonus and some family assistance payments. All depends on your family income.
