Default Master's Degree in progress - gain anything?

Hi,

I'm currently doing a fulltime online masters degree (Uni of Liverpool), and was just wondering does any of this count towards any extra points when completing the application? I wont be fnished the course for another year and a half or so.

Hi Marcus

Can only speak from own experience, may not be relevant to all Masters and may have changed since last year[my Masters= MBA]

In my case I was informed a Masters was of little use / benefit unless supported by relevant work experience and a senior position within my organisation. I think I got 60 points for all of these criteria whereas may have got 50 points without.

Bear in mind.....all skills are assessed by relevant skills assessing centres [in my case AIM] and each of these may measure skills differently.

As an aside, I spoke to an agent BEFORE finishing Masters to estimate what points etc. Maybe you want to do this?

Hope this is of some use.

Anyone else shed light on this re "online" Masters?

Marcus: George Lombard may be able to advise?

Yeah would have thought someone would have asked this question before. For refernce I'm doing a MSc, and have over 12 years of IT experience, I already have more points than I need but was curious.

1. Incomplete qualifications, in themselves, are generally worth nothing.

2. Depending on your existing skills and experience, you may already meet skill assessing authority and DIMIA requirements.

3. Unlike Canada, there are no extra points for having a Masters degree over a qualification equivalent to an Australian bachelors (there is an exception to this rule for some Australian Masters degrees). However, in some cases a Masters may help you get a skill assessment, or substitute for a bachelors degree.
