Re: Mass exodus
Hi
We moved to Vic 15 weeks ago family of 5. Friends of ours moved to Qland 2 weeks after us family of 4 not sure if they will stay they have been moaning about the bloody heat for the last 11 weeks. And my daughters best friend also moved to Qland 8 weeks ago family of 4 all from Northampton,Not all bad news for Northampton now even more room for so called asylm seekers. bye bye UK. |
Originally posted by megawho Agreed, it is not a national crisis (and not that I suggested it was). But then talk of a 'mass exodus' from the UK is all a bit silly too. Just pointing out that plenty of ozzies, many of them well educated, go live and work abroad. Hence the inquiry currently taking place here. People can judge for themselves why the goverment felt the need to call it. Of course there are those who are on a curiosity trip and will eventually return. But the country's imminent problem is who is going to fund the public purse in the here and now? With an ageing population, and the increase in the demand for welfare, the crisis is where the taxes are coming from. No wonder they need an enquiry - they 've got to work out how many incoming migrants to let in to re-balance the books and up their tax revenues! |
I dont know if other nurses have noticed, but there certainly seem to be large numbers leaving these shores from my area. I'm 1 of four from my trust leaving in the next 3 months with a further 5/6 at various stages of the application process. I work for a fairly small directorate, I'd guess there are about 100 nurses employed altogether. Most are heading for aus/Nz with 2 going to Canada.

There have also been influxes of nurses to the NHS. First from the Caribbean, then spain, then mauritius, then the Phillipines. It has always happened. Many of the Senior Nurse managers in Australia are british expats who migrated over 20 years ago. I was approached in 1972 when New Zealand were trying to attract UK nurses. It is one of the advantages of being in a profession where there is world wide demand. I also know several nurses who have returned to the UK after migrating. It will always happen. G |
