MARTIAL ARTS PRICES
Hi,
I was born in Brisbane but my parents moved to the UK when I was 9 months old.
Now seems to be the right time to make the move back to Australia.
We are looking to move to Brisbane or the Gold Coast.
I teach Martial arts full time in the UK and would love to continue that in Australia.
Does anyone have an idea of the cost of martial arts classes out there so that I can start to work out how much to charge and if I would be able to afford to continue teaching full time.
Thanks for your time,
Glenn

You could try the G-K-R karate International who are currently looking for people to set up dojos.

Thank you.
G-K-R do not have a great reputation in England.
I would be looking to start my own club along the same format that I use here, but I would need to know prices in Australia to compare.

My son trains with Ian Cuthbert (shikon) in Essex but apparently they have never heard of Shikon out there.
Have a look at these they might be of some help to you...good luck.

Spooky...Sensi ian himself is thinking about going to oz sometime in the future,he has a brother out there just north of Sydney somewhere. He went for a visit a few months ago and was looking at the karate scene,i dont think he was too impressed..nothing can compare with Shikon right?.
Also one of his black belts,a young guy might be moving out there with the view of opening a club.
Hope it works out for you>

Re: MARTIAL ARTS PRICES
My son does Idokan Ju-jitsu and pays $8 a 1.5 hr lesson.
His instructor closed the club whilst she was ill so he had a go at Hapkido.
Very nice dojo, next door neighbour is an accountant. Instructor charges $100/month, eat as much as you one. I asked him if he was full-time and his answer was 'I wish'. He has about 30-40 students (50:50 kids).
There is a TaeKwonDo place nearby similar size but this guy has boards on the building. I only ever see people in there after school has finished.
Also, a Brazilian ju-jitsu place in the equivalent of a corner shop near the station. There are mats fixed to the walls it is so small. I'm waiting for the day when somebody goes through the window.
Idokan class is in community centre. He is very pleased with the instruction. Last night, there were 6 black belts (incl. top guy of Idokan) and two students: my 13yo green belt and a beginner. Before it was temporarily closed they had about 15 students (kids + adults).
Australia is more commercialised when it comes to martial arts. In the UK I found it less so. My son's initial foray into judo was a local community centre where the instructor was a top judoka (every now and then he would wear a gi with the British flag and Olympic rings). Cost us 50p. Just before we left he apologised for increasing it to £1 to cover the increased hall costs.
Karate is very big here. Others like judo, ju-jitsu, kung fu, and aikido you have to seek out.
National average salary is $50-55k and I would allow $20k for building, expenses.
I think it depends on whether you can get one on one lessons supplementing your class lessons. One on one fitness training is common; you always see people getting worked out in the parks near the city (Melbourne).
