Maroochy Shire area Queensland

Hi Guys

Been away for a while but the good news is that we may well be back on track and looking to apply later this year.

Anyway we are looking at applying for SIR in the Maroochy Shire area of Queensland.

My trade is on their In Demand List.

Is there anyone living in this area that could give us some insight into living there.

wow... among best places in the world! :) Great if you can find job there. It's a bit of a drive from Brisbane (1.5 hrs from City). But I'd rather drive to Mooloolaba or Noosaville:)

The sunshine coast has three shires, maroochy, caloundra and noosa. There are loads of Poms living here, a few post on this forum. Most, in fact all we have met have got jobs, only a few travel to brisbane for work. The areas supposed to be the fastest growing in australia.

Its got hot sometimes wet summmers, rest of year is in the 20's fairly dry and nearly always sunny. Beaches are proper surf beaches, white sand etc, plenty of rainforest, green countryside by the truck load. Maroochy shire spends mega bucks on keeping it nice, its a huge tourist area, hence the impressivly clean beaches, parks, walks, bbq's etc. Only an hour on the weekends if you want the big smoke know as brisbane. Housing starts from 350,000 for what would be a palace compared to UK, up to millions for beach front.

In maroochy shire the top suburbs near the beaches, would be Alexandra headland, mountain creek, buderim, mooloolaba but thats mainly tourist accom. There is a large hospital, cultural center, massive cinemas, large shopping mall. Low crime rate, traffic to me seems busy, to those from the UK, probably a doddle.

Noosa shire is the quiet one, there you might have a problem with work.

Anything else :D

Hi Graham,

Well this is my first look at the forum since we moved to The Sunshine Coast just over 2 months ago. I still wake up every day with a big smile feeling like the luckiest b*gg£r alive to be living in such a beautiful place.

Obviously it's early days for me but if you have any specific questions please ask. I would say that this area has it all. The whole package, but it depends what you are looking for. I'm in Coolum, up the coast between Maroochydore and Noosa. Good luck with your move.

Lou :)

Thanks all

As we are hoping to get over on a SIR Visa we will have to live and work within the Maroochy area.

How does the house prices/rental compare with Brisbane & the Gold Coast.

Hi Graham,
just got back from the beach at mooloolaba, georgeous is all I can say. We have just bought a house at Buderim lovely village feel (5 minutes to beach by car) and not just for the tourist!! Staying with family at Brisbane until the house goes through 55 minutes to Brisbane keeping to the speed limits (which everyone does). :)

We're looking at Buderim as we like the idea of being not too far from the beach, plus we like the sound of Mountain Creek High for our eldest.

What size house you bought cazz?? & how much if you don't mind me asking :o We're gonna need a 4 bedder but its always difficult to 'know' if houses are within price range etc as we're not sure of what wages we'll have coming in. Hubby's an industrial electrician by trade but will prob end up doing domestic stuff.

G'Day from the best place to live in Aus!!!

We live in Buderim. We have been here since Oct 26 2004 and like most can not stop smilling!!! I'm a sales rep and go to Brisbane most weeks 4 times, takes about 1 hr.

Got home today about 5 o'clock went for a walk down at Alex Headland and watched the surf with my wife as there is a good swell due to Cyclone of Haiti!!

We just spent our first weekend camping up at Rainbow Beach, took the Pajero 4 wheel driving to Double island point(BEAUTIFULL) then hired a boat and cruised up to Inskip point across from Fraser island. WE saw turtles, very large rays and some fantastic sites!!!

Couple of weekend ago ditched the kids and spent a long weekend at Moreton Island, helicopter ride, sand quad biking, snorkeling wrecks hired a boat and saw dolphins, rays , sharks and turtles.

Working in Brisbane is great, but to come home to SUNSHINE COAST is the BEST!!!!!!

We are LIVING the dream.

One happy Dog!!!!!!!!!!!

Go to www.realestate.com.au for rentals and for sales, prices generally are a bit lower than the Gold Coast which is more commercialised, theme parks etc.
