Maris Piper Potatoes

Has anyone seen these in Aus? Been in Coles and Woolies and couldn't find then

No, you won't find Maris Piper anywhere here. Apparently Desiree is a good substitute: Eureka and Riverina Russet have also been mentioned as being developed by crossing Maris Piper with other varieties.

Desiree are available in most supermarkets: you might have to search hard for the other two.

Maris Piper is basically impossible to source. Never seen King Edwards either. I usually end up with Desiree for roasts or chips, but apparently Sebago, Kestrel or Royal Blue are also suitable. There was a suggestion of finding 'baking potatoes', since they would be floury.

Found a potato called Coliban which is very close to the texture of Maris Piper.Used to be stocked at Woolworths and Coles but not lately, they have gone down the road of generic white potato which are no good with my Haggis.

Ive seen King Edward seed potatoes at Bunnings before.

I'm growing some when the season starts for the first time....not sure what variety.... just big ones for ease of handling for me.

Wonder if there are any tips for home made upside down pots for the tomatoes and capsicums and peppers I want to grow along the top of my back verandah. ?

By unrolling the bag and covering the top, you get like an underground 'tree' of potatoes - a bucket full from one plant. You have to keep it well watered though - filling out all those spuds needs lots of water.

Yehp no worries about that the wife is a hoseaholic lol....

Found some good tips re upside down containers just a bucket with a lid, very strong handle, cut hole, small piece of sponge or foam, soil with vermiculite added for lessening weight, and voila.

This is damn interesting though.... Might do this myself, stay stuhm and suprise the wife.

The potatoes here are quite disappointing. I've had to take a bag of Cream Delight back to Woollies as when I cut into them, half were black in the middle. Got a $5 refund and another bag of potatoes- let's hope these are better.:fingerscrossed:

There was a sign up in my local woollies saying that due to either to much/not enough water potatoes would have black spots in the middle but they were ok to eat. Next there'll be in short supply and prices will rocket like bananas!
