thank you so much guys. this clears a lot up in my mind.

bc world. I totally agree with you doode. and thats partly the reason I posted the thread. I've noticed that most the users are office workers and IT based. I remember reading on immi.gov that shed loads of skilled workers in the accountancy, IT industry but the manual trades were still thin on the ground.

in a lot of the threads I have read about brickies, chippy's, tilers and plumbers its there OH's that are asking for advise.

I was probably being a little harsh by saying that folk are telling others not to come. but I will stand by that there is an awful lot of negative feeling on here.

dont all jump down my throat just read through the posts. almost every thread has an argument of some kind. just making an observation guys so dont shoot me. I go on quite a few forum and this one dose tend to have more bitch fights than most.

I hope others have found this poll useful to get an idea as to what your fellow BE users do.

No, got my licence (took a few months) and got a job locally with some very arrogant sparkies. The Aussie sparkies i came across are so good they don't need to hear anybody else's opinion!

Really didn't enjoy it, a mate was a postie and at the time they were desperate for them. I applied and have been there for six months now and can't believe that people are willing to pay me to ride a bike for a living. Best job i have ever had i think, pay not great but the other half works so all is good. Start at 05.30 and usually home by 12.30! Sweet......

Have chosen office worker but really wasn't sure so apologies if that was wrong, I worked for government as a Housing Officer in the UK, had to do Property Management for a year or so when we first got here and now back in Government for the moment, all three jobs are part office based but involve a lot of driving and home visits and stuff. Hope this helps.

Cool Re: manual or desk job? which are you?

Desk job. It's indoor work with no heavy lifting.

Misc. Run the high school uniform shop. Sometimes sitting at a computer - no time for surfing the net though. Most of the time selling, sometimes lugging boxes around and rest of the time cooking and serving in the tuckshop.

It's not surprising that so many people here are IT bods - the people with the access and mindset to use forums I suppose. Having said that BE does take allsorts..over many other forums out there that tend to be far more specialist. I think it takes a certain mindset to even register with a forum. There are many people who would never register.

Also explains I think people commentating on Telstra, availability of online tech (etc). Most of the IT bods I know are serial shoppers.

what this poll explains to me is there are lots of Brits filling certain skilled jobs where as others are not getting the quoter they need.

obviously BE.com dont cover every BE but its shows a % I think.

Hi, I'm an electrician, landing in Oz at the end of the month. Bit concerned about all the doom and gloom re tradies at the moment but at the end of day I'll shovel shit for a living. Better to not be fussy and working than fussy and unemployed.Davy

All it shows to me is that 55 office bods and 43 other bods have responded, that under 800 have had a nosey and couldn't be bothered to reply and several thousands of other posters haven't done either. Not convinced it says any more than that. Not a percentage of anything but no different from any other statistics, even expensive, highly researched ones
