Making a will in Oz - how much?
We will need to make a will when we get to Oz and I was wondering what is the cost of this, has anyone had one done?

We've just been quoted $100 + GST each for relatively simple ones, by our lawyers in Melbourne.
Hope that helps.

I was quoted $140 recently, but decided to do it myself

Did our own on forms from the newsagent, cost about $20. I guess thats only OK if your wills are quite straightforward, we have no kids and few assets so it was really easy.

Considering you can get a lawyer made will for AUD100-200 in most circumstances, it seems sensible to me to pay extra to know it's done correctly.
Even though UK wills are not invalidated by moving to Australia (to my knowledge), a significant change in life circumstances like migration normally warrants a new will.
Those with children ought to think about what guardianship arrangements they would like to have if they were to die suddenly - especially if previous arrangements were made in the UK before migration was contemplated.
