Default Making Friends

I notice that many English migrants seem overly concerned with the prospect of "making friends".
I think one of the issues here is that Australians simply arent that concerned with making friends.
As an Australians I used to think that barely having anything to do with ones immediate family(Elderly parents, Siblings) and not being able to show much warmth to "others" were "anglo" traits-after moving to the UK I discovered they were merely Aussie traits-the English are suprisingly family and people orientated.
Any thoughts??
