Default Magnetic Island

Hi,

can anyone recommend accomodation on (or websites for)
Magnetic Island?

We want to go for a week around September time and would prefer a holiday house with a pool, rather than a hotel or resort. I've trawled the net but everything I've seen so far are either homes similar to what we're living in at the moment (a typical 4x2) or shacks that are a bit grotty.

Would also like to hear anyones experiences of the Island!

Thanks.

We stayed there in July, had a fantastic time! we stayed at sails on horseshoe which was apartments - they have a pool and it's right by horseshoe bay. http://www.sailsonhorseshoe.com.au/
Pub just up the road does lovely food! Went to several beautiful bay beaches. We usually look for a cottage type accomodation but there doesn't seem to be too much around! Sails was clean and v. comfortable - would stay there again. good luck - you'll have a fab time!

Hi Ruth,

thanks for your response. I'll have a look at the link!

Did you do any activities while you were there? The beach horseriding looks fun and I've seen some rainforest walks which look good.

Should have said, we have nippers aged 7 and 9, so have to include activities which are suitable for them too.

Thanks again, Leigh.

I love Magnetic Island as it's really pretty. The Forts walk is good apparently and you are likely to see a koala if you do that one, we did another walk and it was very hard going but good. Getting around the island in a Moke is great fun and kids seem to love them. Horseshoe Bay has most of the watersport activities but all of the bays are gorgeous. There's not heaps to do on Maggie it's more of a place to go to relax. My brother did the Tropicana Tour when he came to visit us and he loved that. If you're coming to Magnetic Island try to spend a day in Townsville on the Strand as it's absolutely brilliant for kids

We stayed in Townsville as well as we have friends up there. The kids loved the water play area on the strand! The kids are 5 and 8 and really enjoyed both Townsville and Magnetic Island. We didn't do any specific activities on the island - a few walks, and lots of time on the beach!

The Strand is brilliant and I never get tired of it I agree with you..... Magnetic Island is great for doing very little!

Thanks A Team!

Our plan is to drive to TSV and camp for a night or 2, so we'll check out the strand Then a week on Maggy before driving back to CNS. Relaxation is the name of the game, so quiet is good. The kids are as happy with a bucket and spade as they are with action packed kiddie adventure. We're not into organised tours but the kids would definetly enjoy a beach horseride (as would I!). The rest will be DIY. Oldest kid loves walking / adventuring, so that would be good.

We're taking our car, so will be able to get around the island OK.

We want to self cater. Is food expensive on the island (supermarkets at an isolated premium) as our friend has offered to lend us an Engel to transport some food there if need be.

Thanks again.

There's a couple of supermarkets on the island as approx 3000 people live there but you can always stock up in Townsville before you go anyway and just load it into your car. We took our car over on the ferry the last time we went and it was much easier to get around especially if you're going for a week. I hope the weather is kind to you though as a week is quite a long time for an island holiday with kids when there's no organised activities. If the weather is good then you'll have a great time.
