I've been - flew in and out of there when I went to The Whitsundays a year ago. Depends what you like to how much at home you'd be there I think. |

Nice provincial "city" about 70 or 80,000 people. tropical climate - very humid in summer and generally considerably hotter than the state weather forecasts would have you believe ! typically 29-32 in summer my ar*e. The problem is the weather station is atop My Basset on the beach...a lovely breezy spot....drive down Nebo Road (Bruce Highway) and glower at the huge digital thermometer at the Motel as it hits 40C !! Nevertheless...winters are superb, the people are really friendly. There are none of the endless suburbs which plague much of coastal Queensland. Its only an hour to the Whitsundays, or to mountainous Eungella National Park. The beaches are nice, but you'll already be aware of the box jelly problems, compounded since the apparently increasing incidence of Irikandji rendered enclosures useless. Work may be limited, depending on what you do, but rents and house prices are cheaper than down south. And you can collect coconuts from your own garden...a nice novelty. Any questions...just ask. |
