My brother lived there for a few years and still has a house there which he rents out. Not a bad little town and some good beaches within fairly easy reach. Visited some friends of his there in 1998 while staying at (I think) Blacks Beach. Don't know about schools/jobs etc.

Because my sister and family live there. My father lives in Brisbane, I have been there but would like to live near my sister. Have my sister's point of view which is quite positive but wanted to hear other views :)

We have flights booked for the 31st Oct. Will arrive 3rd or 4th Nov. Got some good reports. - Try a search of recent threads.
Both North Mackay School and Whitsunday Anglican have ben recommended.

Why Mackay? -big enough to offer what we need, small enough not to be City life, good climate, reasonable house prices, the Reef. Good a start as anywhere, we can always move.

Glad to hear positive feedback. I may be wrong but am sure my nephews go to North Mackay. My sister lives in Bucasia which is North Mackay. My nephews used to go to private catholic schools in Brisbane and my sister is quite impressed with the state schools there.
From what I have researched etc does not seem like a run down sugar town!
Would appreciate if you let me know what you think once you arrive there...
Good Luck
