M.m.r. A Choice?
hello everybody and a happy new year to all. i am curious to hear from any body who has had there child vaccinated in aus,obviously i,m sure you are all aware of the hysteria surrounding M.M.R. in the uk which i confess led to my first child jack having single jabs (he is now 3 and a half and in perfect health),therefore i would like to know if there is a choice. apologies if this question has been raised before:confused:

All mine were MMRed in Australia, the last one was done 2 years ago. I was not offered single jabs, I dont know if they are an option, I am not keen on the whole MMR thing either. I did not feel there was the bad press so much there. I am returning to Perth in 2 weeks, and my youngest is due for her second MMR (4-5 years old one). I have refused it in the UK, and I hope to be able to refuse it in Aus too.

We have done exectly the same thing as we are pretty anti the MMR Go into www.avn.org.au that may help. We have learnt that single jabs are available in Perth. Hope this helps |

Hope this helps Could you please advise a contact for the single jabs in Perth. Our little boy had already had the first of the single vaccines before we left the UK and we were led to believe they would be available here in Perth too. However, since arriving I have spoken with 3 doctors, various pharmacies and the national vaccine helpline who are saying that the mumps vaccine is not available individually in Australia. We've been told that you can apply to the Government for permission to import the vaccine (if you can find a hospital in the UK prepared to export it for you) but the costs are high because it has to be refigerated during transportation and the process is lengthy. We are planning to return to the UK shortly and now intend to have the vaccines done there but it would be nice to know if there is a possibility of getting them done here. Something we have found is that many nurseries/daycare centres insist on your child having their vaccinations up to date according to the immunisation register. We have also been advised by the Government Dept of Health & Ageing that, because of the Immunise Australia programme, we will need to register as "consciencious objectors" to the MMR. If anyone has any other information or experience with single jabs in WA it would be really appreciated. |

We are up to date with our jabs on both kids, but they started their courses in 2 differring countries before arrival in Australia, and hence are out of synch with Australain systems. This has caused an oddity to arise.
We receive constant reminders from the Health authorities that tell us our kids need jabbing for various things, however all the GPs we have seen say (and they are right) that our nippers are up to date, and in fact are actually 'ahead' if thats the right word on their scheduling. we have since been told that the authorities will always consider them to be behind as their system is not flexible enough to cope with pre-existing records that differ to Aus schedules. |
I don't want to start an argument here, I respect everyone's opinion & we are facing the same choice. We are going for the MMR. We've spoken to a GP friend & the doctor who did our visa medicals on Wednesday, & they both say that it is safe. I've tried to do a lot of research on the subject & struggled to find any info that is impartial on the subject. Also MMR is used throughout Europe, the USA & Australia, It seems that most of this debate is only going on in "3rd world" (Doctor's words, not mine) Britain.

We're not incapable of understanding medical advice and don't read the Sun newspaper. There are many opposing medical reports on the subject of combined vaccines and we felt that, as there is this doubt, single vaccines were the preferred route for us. |
