It's not a common trade from what I gather. A guy from my high school did really well as a stonemason and was constantly getting flown to Melbourne to do work.

I believe that stonemasons are very hard to find. As long as you are good, turn up when you say you will, you should do very well.
I wish you good luck

Depends what on type of stonemasonary jobs you are after.
Hubby used to be a stonemason here in Perth until he hurt his back and had to give it up. He specialised in traditional restoration of which there were really only 2 places he could work (1 was Brian Pollard who he worked for - I cant remember who the other was and hubby is away at moment so I cant ask him). A lot of stonemasons seem to work as stone cutters doing marble / granite bench tops etc. If you are happy to do than then there are quite a few places you could consider.
The other option is to contact TAFE or Polytechnic West and speak to some of the lecturers that run the appenticeship and pre-apprenticeship courses cos those lecturers probably have the most up to date details about who is hirig and for what. Hubby has been out of the industry for nearly 5 years now so any info he had is out of date.

That's another option - teach stonemasonry at TAFE or elsewhere http://coursesearch.tafe.wa.edu.au/L....aspx?ID=W599.
oooh, yes. Forgot about that. Good catch
