Default Looking for Sporty Teenagers, Rockingham/Mandurah way...

Hi - we moved here in January & my 13yr old son is really struggling. He's missing his mates big time & constantly wants to go home. The school has messed him about, putting him in yr8 instead of 9 (so he's going to have to start all over) & although really popular at home seems to be really struggling to make friends here.
I also have a 17yr old daughter who hasn't met anyone her own age yet. We're finding this much harder than we expected & we knew it would be tough...
Would love to meet up with others we're between Rockingham & Mandurah.

If he was born between July 1st 1998 and June 30th 1999 then he will be in year 8. Why have they messed him about, if they have put him in the wrong year then complain. If he is in the correct year then he isn't starting again, he is going into the correct year with children his age. Sadly things don't happen overnight and some effort on his part will help and its only 5 weeks into the term. He needs to get involved in things at school. Most schools have sports teams of some kind, tell your son to go and speak to the Phys Ed teacher and join whatever he can.

We have all been there and it should sort itself out. What is your 17 year old daughter doing, has she gone back to school or TAFE?

We live in Secret Harbour and I have a 14 year old. What school does your son go to?

My boys are enrolled at Rocky City Soccer Club (they train at Lark Hill). What type of sport is he interested in? There are lots of options available.

Thanks for the reply - he was born in April 98 so he should be in year 9 - I've made noises at the school so hopefully they'll do something about it now. My daughter went to see a careers advisor at John Tonkin College in Mandurah today. It seems she might have to wait until June/July before she can start college so we're looking into other options tomorrow.

My son goes to Comet Bay College at the moment, we're going to look at Safety Bay High School tomorrow - he loves football & they have a specialist program there that he might be able to get into. Can you tell me what night the Lark Hill training is as that's our closest club - Thanks

Then you are correct he should be in year 9 and you should go as high as you can to ensure he is put in the correct year group.

Ha! It was the assistant principal that put him in year 8! I'd better find the principal I guess. I questioned it at the time as well...

You need to make a massive fuss about that and say you want him moving immediately.

It's different night depending on the age group. Maybe google the club: rockingham city

All but one ( my son!) from his team go to Safety Bay Soccer Academy.

Welcome to the struggle that is 'Life in Austalia!'

Now I'm confused, my son was born in sept 96 and he's in year 11, should he be in year 10 then? His cousin also born in sept 96 is also in yr 11 (different area but still WA) but her sister born jan 95 is yr 12? You've got me thinking now lol

No, they changed the cut off dates back then from Jan to December to July to June. This is why the current year 10s are only half a year cohort born between Jan 1st 97 and jun 30th 1997. Your son is in the correct year.
