Looking at Melbourne in Aug/Sep
Hi guys,
Just discovered this board, and it seems a great place, plenty of great info.
Ive got the chance of a business sponsored visa (457 I think) $62000 a year with a car included. There is also a "Living Away From Home Allowance" which saves paying some income tax and is put towards renting costs.
I have a wife and a newborn baby and we are all looking at renting in a nice suburb for 6 months to "find our feet".
My main question is, is $62000 enough to support all 3 in comfort until our baby is old enough for a child minder then my wife can get work in her profession (legal secretary).
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!!!!!!

Hi Stuart, welcome to the site.
I reckon on $62,000 you should get by ok especially if the car is thrown in.
Doesn't leave a lot for little luxuries though.
Good job we have free electric & Gas BBQs in all the parks out here.
For more info specific to Melbourne you can also join the Britvics site.

If you are renting, its throwing money away. If you are planning on buying with a low/medium mortgage, you have a better way of life, and also very important, where in Melbourne ? Prices can vary a lot depending on where you are.

I've only really looked into buying in outer Melbourne, so i'm not really keyed up on rental prices.
