Looking for I.T work in Australia
Newbie here!!
We are currently looking at the options of moving to Australia from Ireland. Myself, wife and two young children.... both under school age... My main concern at the moment is work Down Under.... I've been in I.T for nearly 20 years and whilst I have no formal qualifications (MCSE's,etc) I have worked as I.T Mgr and Pre/Post sales Consultant now for 6 to 7 years..... myriad of skills but all based round the windows platforms.... Is it possible to get work whilst still being based in Ireland or is it a case of come out and see how it goes? Cheers |

Unless you have very sought after specialised skills no employer/agency will consider you until you are in OZ and they can meet you face to face.

Re: Looking for I.T work in Australia
Hi Fraser,
I was out for 3 months June-Sept last year and did some IT work. I was in Sydney and there was plenty work however people have since told me there has been a real slowdown and lots of people being laid off etc but i cant see it being any worse than Ireland and the UK. Their banks are still solvent which is a start. As i say i was only there for 3 months but worked with a number of long term career contractors and a few consultants. According to them most work is in Sydney, next is Melbourne and then obviously Brisbane and Perth but according to them it's more permanent jobs in Bris and Perth. When I went out I was looking at trying to land permanent work before i went but I would advise you to get there first and then try if you can afford it agents wont give you the time of day unless you are there and ready to start. |

Is it a similar situation for Telecomms jobs?
Just a case of come out and apply? |
Re: Looking for I.T work in Australia
Put yourself in the employer's shoes.
If you had a position available would you give it to someone not in Oz or someone in Oz who could start straight away ? Its a no brainer  |
