Default Long shot...but anyone know how Share Options are taxed once in Oz?

Just wondering if anyone knows how these are taxed.

Granted a few years ago and due to expire in a couple of months.

Is the acquisition price :
the value of the option
the value on the date of becoming an Oz tax resident
zero

Ta.

Tricky I would say. A good accountant would be my first port of call.

Marco, have you tried contacting any local tax accountants in Adelaide, I'd have thought they'd know the answer to this, and if not will be able to find out for you.

Good news for you is... Upon date of migration all of your assets (stock options are an asset) receive a 'jump' in value to the value at the time of the migration. So if the stock options would nett you 50K$ in UK then you'd have paid tax on 50K$, but now as of the date of the move you get the50K$ Tax Free. You pay tax on any increment above that 50K$ as a result of the share price going up from teh date of your move to australia.

You pay tax on current received value minus value of option proceeds at time of your move to australia ( Now dont ask me what happens if the negative number comes out - im not sure if you can get a tax loss credited ! ).
