The long process: teaching in Victoria
 

If anyone can advise, I'd be really grateful... I have now read so much on how to get registered etc. to teach in Victoria, that I think I may be more confused than when I began(!)...

I'm hoping to move out to Melbourne at the end of the year, in the hope of teaching secondary school English. I have paid for and sent off all documentation to NOOSR. Do I need to register with VIT in addition? Did I actually need to go through the qualification assessment process with NOOSR if Victoria will undertake the same qualification process? And what else do I need to do in order to be eligible to teach in Victoria? :confused: I've not yet sorted out my working holiday visa. If someone could offer me a simple, step-by-step guide I would be most grateful!

Also, my qualification certificate photocopies were certified by a Chief Inspector of Police- a friend has informed me that his signature may not count as police officers are not necessarily Notary Publics- anyone know whether this is correct?

And finally, it seems my best bet is to try to secure work at a Catholic school (I teach at one now)- in order to do this, do I have to register with Catholic Education Commission as well!?

I emailed the education dept in vic. with a list of questions as to what to do and in what order etc. Chris Towers gave a detailed personal response which was very helpful, as you usually get redirected to the same old confusing bits of info.
Did you have to get deatailed transcripts of you courses?

Thanks for that email address- have sent him a few questions. Yes, I did have to send detailed transcripts. I'm now thinking I may only have had to have an assessment with NOOSR if applying for a skilled visa, although I'll be going on a wokring holiday visa. Am finding the whole process really frustrating!

Welcome to British Expats (BE).

Are you aware that you can only work for 13 weeks for any one employer? Ie if you are there for 12 months and working the whole time, that will be four different employers. Its pretty easy to get around - just work for the schools themselves or at the one school and 4 different agencies will act as your payroll.

Is there anything on the immigration/professions boards (see further down the Discussion forum list) that may help you?

Thanks for the welcome. I'll certainly check out the other threads- cheers for the pointer. Just wanted to add... I decided to apply for the working holiday visa online today and it's already been granted- So quick!! Hooray. :)
