Lizards Everywhere !!!
We just moved into a house in Brisbane that is infested with little lizards. They crawl all over the walls inside at night. I am not that squeamish about wildlife as long as it stays outside. Any thoughts on how to rid of them ? We have patched up all the holes but it is an old house ....

Geckos or skinks?

Re: Lizards Everywhere !!!
They are probably geckos, and they eat the other bugs that we don't like, such as cockroaches etc.
If you only have a few of them, it isn't too bad, but an infestation... well, maybe time to call a pest controller. |

Not sure what Geckos you get there. Like you say however, useful for controlling bugs, as are the Huntsmans of course. The problem is when Geckos get into the electricals. They have the potential to cause fires through short circuits. |
Re: Lizards Everywhere !!!
They are light yellow, almost transluscent. I think I will call pest control. I don't mind a few, but when I wake up in the middle of the night I have thirty extra eyes staring back at me.... Slightly un-nerving. Good point about the electrical never thought of that. Thanks

Re: Lizards Everywhere !!!
We have had a few in the house, last year we found two tails that had dropped off, one gheko was never found so I am assuming Gordon ate him:o - being an indoor cat, he saw an opportunity I guess.
The other lived in our house for a week, on the dogs bed - the kelpie was too scared to go on his bed but the lizard was so quick we could never catch him, when we did, his tail had gone and we put him outside. Mr PP rescued another one this week when he found a tail in the dining area and Gordon having a 'face off' with a gheko which was too scared to move:huh:, he was promptly rescued and released outside much to Gordons fury. |
Re: Lizards Everywhere !!!
I love geckos and lizards in general

Re: Lizards Everywhere !!!
House Geckos I would think, we had them, terrible to get out the door ended up chasing them round the house. Friendly I wouldn't worry too much.
The cockroaches are huge and horrible. Weather maybe colder here in Victoria than Queensland but I don't miss the cockroaches... |
Re: Lizards Everywhere !!!
Hubby opened the fly screen to go in to the garden on Saturday & a lizard landed on him which made him jump (& me laugh). He called the kids to have a look at it & as he closed the screen door again the thing dropped it's tail & ran. The kids were fascinated by the wriggling tail left on the patio but I had to walk away....YUCK!!

Re: Lizards Everywhere !!!
Geckos are cool.... leave them alone.
We have a resident population and I encourage them as much as possible (anything that feeds off mosquitos is welcome in my house). We do have one that got crushed in the door jam about 3 years ago thats still there - a near fossilised perfectly flat imprint of a former friend... |

Re: Lizards Everywhere !!!
We get geckos in the evenings, they wouldn't worry me at all. Although I did freak out when one jumped on me in Fraser before I was used to them. Now they're just entertainment for the cats.
