Wow, funny how people see things differently, we lived in Townsville (Bushland Beach) and on Magnetic Island for four years. Loved the place. Never felt threatened once or knew anyone who was a victim of crime. Townsville has it's rough areas but tell me anywhere that doesn't. We still own property there and will move back one day.

Ditto!

We lived in Kirwan for over 6 years and never felt threatened or experienced any crime there. Unlike our previous location of a small Dorset town where we had several break-ins at work, our car broken into etc. There's little 'really' bad news in Townsville so the mainly petty crime caused by just a few individuals (often juveniles unfortunately) causes outrage amongst the locals. There are a lot of car thefts and opportunist break-ins (a large number of people leave their property unsecured though) and yes Willows does have teenage gangs hanging around on late night shopping nights. It was my regular shopping mall for the rest of the week and I never, ever felt in anyway unsafe.

I've lived in Melbourne for the last year which I absolutely love and I have no plans to leave, but there is much more serious crime here....by far.
