Do you find it "more expensive" "cheaper" or "over all the same"

Thank You
Hi Phil

You won't get an answer unfortunately. For me I find it cheaper. For Chris he finds it more expensive. But Chris will will do his best to convince you that Oz is more expensive, no matter what your circumstances are. On the other hand I will accept some have it cheaper whilst others don't. So many varying factors come into it. Good luck in finding out a very simple answer.

What constitutes cheaper?

I remember having a ongoing argument with the bean counters at my work. Their policy was if travelling in central London, you must take bus or tube because it was 'cheaper'. The office was 10 minute walk to the tube so I always got a cab. If I went to a meeting it was 20 minutes walking there and back + on average a 20 minute tube ride then a walk at the other end. Taxi would generally take 15 mins. My argument was it's better I spent more time billable in the office then trying to save money for the office. When my hourly charge out was 200 or 300 per hour it made sense to every, bar the blinkered bean counters.

Surely that goes without saying, no-one is stupid enough to think anywhere is cheaper for everyone. I have always said it is an individual thing, WE are finding it much cheaper, others wont, simples.

And why is cheapness the only factor anyone ever talks about? There are so many other factors when looking at the benefits or drawbacks of a country - proximity to other nations, nice weather, proximity to family and friends, population density, etc. It might be the case that one is prepared to pay more out to be near family, for example.

That's why many prefer Britain.

Australia has none of those

It is far from the only factor anyone ever talks about, all those things are often discussed on here. Costs are of course a major factor though so it is understandable why it is a common subject of conversation. I have even had people here say to me they heard how expensive it has become over there.

It got very expensive all at once when they crashed Sterling, as we have already noted. Relative to Australian wages there has just been the usual inflation.
