Life On Mars
If you're moving to the southern half of Australia definately buy slippers. It gets so cold here in winter and home heating systems are so crap that slippers are a definite must. I've not owned a pair of slippers since the 70s but my naked feet feel like bleedn blocks of ice right now.

Even here in Qld I have 3 pairs of slippers in winter one for each level of the house.
Plus in the ensuite, a fluffy toilet mat, because its bloody freezing on that tiled floor in winter.

Brrr! And even with socks on around the house, when I go to bed it takes my feet about an hour to properly feel warm again. Funny how we took for granted things like UK central heating.

some of it....some however is distinctly NOT quaint..but at the end of the day, I go home to a nice house, with a nice family, open a beer and sit on the balcony looking out over the Ocean and think, 'she'll do'!!!

can't wait for your first winter here after your first summer. The extremes of temp are a killer - you'll be screaming like a baby, begging for your fluffy jimjams and comfy bedsocks
