Default Life Insurance on 457

I've searched the forums, but can't find any answers that fit my case.

So we are here on 457. My previous employer gave me life insurance as part of my company pension payments and critical illness cover. As I don't work for them no more, this has gone.

I have life insurance to pay off the mortgage on my UK house - but as the house will be sold on Monday this will end too.

I'm feeling a little exposed. Can anyone recommend a basic life insurance provider in Oz that will provide basic cover for people on 457?

Thanks guys

Will a life insurance company even ask about your visa status?

why not increase your death benefits thru your super and just pay a little more on your premium, then should you leave aus or be unable to get PR you may be able to claim your super back

Don't know..I've take a look at the online forms and they want doctor's details. As we haven't needed to visit a Dr in Oz, we don't have any.

May be this is something I can't really do online.

Hi...Glad someone else has asked this!

All the life insurance companies I have looked at state you either have to be a resident or applying for residency!

Does anyone know a company that does life insurance for temp visa's??

Looks like this needs to be added to the (long) list of problems encountered by temporary residents.

Did you not have life insurance in your home country?

Unhappy Re: Life Insurance on 457

We did, but like others, when we sold the house in UK we stopped the life insurance too. I don't understand what the problem is?? We can buy medical inusrance (of course more expensive for temp residences!), but can't buy life insurance??

Let me know if you get anywhere!!

We are renting at the moment, and if something happens to my hubby (God forbid), the children and myself are knackered!!!

Is it a national company and/or do they cover NSW?

Nerine is an unknown quantity at this point
Default Re: Life Insurance on 457

My husband has it but I have a feeling it's through his employer and may be tied into our health insurance. I'll find out and pm you with the details.

Re: health insurance for us there was a 2 month delay before the benefits kick in. May be a good idea to get it started well before you arrive, not sure if life insurance is the same.

Was the life insurance a specific mortgage protection policy, or a stand-alone policy? In the latter case, you could have kept it going.
