Default Life / Critical Illness Insurance - in UK or Australia?

Hi all, I appreciate this question may have been asked before (though they do appear a bit dated).

I am currently on a 457 visa and have been in Oz for the past 7 months. I do anticipate moving back to the UK within the next 1-2 years.

I was wondering if I can now apply for Life/Critical Illness insurance back in the UK despite living here in Oz? And if anything were to happen (god forbid), if a claim would be valid if and when I move back?

It would seem applying here in Oz is a bit of a grey area with this "intention to reside permanently" to be eligible for most insurances (I gather). However I do have life insurance with my super through my employer it would seem.

Sorry I am a bit of a newbie when it comes to all of this.

Thanks in advance.

You would have to get insurance from the UK with a UK address, it just won't happen without one and in any case there would certainly be a time limit for being in the country you are VISITING, it would not be valid if you were living there, so I suspect you will have to take t plunge and get it in Australia.

Thanks. Luckily I've found out I've already got both plans automatically as part of my superannuation fund it would seem.

For future reference, there are companies that cater to expats and sell term life insurance (which is valid only for a set number of years).

Make sure you know exactly what is covered under your superannuation insurance, and how much cover you have. If you don't choose your own level of cover the default is often the basic level of cover. Purchasing extra cover can be quite cost effective.
