LHR flight conection times.

How long does it take on average coming back from Oz transfering T4 to T1 at London Heathrow?

Will be arriving at 5.30am and my flight to Edinburgh its at 6.50am.

Not too big of a deal if I miss it as the next b.a plane to Edinburgh is at 8.00am.

You'd probably be pushing it, as you have to go through Immigration at Heathrow, and then you either need the underground or the connecting bus service to get right acrross the airport from T4 to T1. Might be possible, but if it was me I'd be going for the 8am.

It's not the most user friendly airport in the world;)

It takes around 75 mins to get from T4 to T1 though in reality it's never take us more than 40 mins so with say 1 hour you may just do it - at least you have the option of the later flight (personally I never go for the 0650 flight as it's full of Bankers (literally).

When we came to Perth in Aug 2007 for our reckie we had short connection times twice at LHR - never again. Flight from Edinburgh was delayed as a load of Spaniards were late getting on the flight (wandering around the departures area at EDI which isn't that big !). When we landed we had to run from T1 ->T3 (via the bus) pick up our boarding cards for the Singapore flight then run to the gate (it was Gate 50 which is not that far). We then got to the gate to find out we had to get a bus to the plane - typically the plane was parked almost next to the BA plane we just got off :curse:

Coming back we ended up with a 7 hr stop over in Singapore, when the time came to leave the plane in Singapore broken (we got told this just after getting bums on seats !), still they were pretty good though and ended up giving up a plane due to go to Hong Kong (gave them time to fix our plane or use one coming in from London for the Hong Kong peeps as they were not due to leave yet). We ended up being airborne about an hour or so later and there was no-way he'd make up the time in flight. This left us us with 15 mins to get from T3 -> T1 via immigration & security which is impossible (took us that long to taxi). Thankfully the flight to Edinburgh was delayed by a couple of hours, they gave us food vouchers (£30) and some unlimited 48hr phone cards, we eventually made it back to EDI at 1am.

When we came back in Nov 2007 we gave ourselves loads of connection time in Heathrow, we used the food vouchers (no expiry date on them) and one of the phone cards to make some calls. We also had a 4 day Hong Kong stopover.

Even if you make the 0650 flight your luggage may not.

Hmmm maybe I should phone up B.A and just ask to change me to the 7.50am flight to Edinburgh..?.?

But then again the travel agent said that if I miss my flight they have to put me on the next flight.

i think the minimum connecting time is 1.5hrs so you are just under, chances are you would make it if you were quick and didnt loiter around! as pp said its the risk of your bags not making it, you can probably run faster than the ground staff can unload the bags!!!

I'd get it changed, takes the pressure of you a bit.
Even though they should get you on the next flight if you miss the first one, think of the hassle factor, having to make yourself known, get yourself trasnferred onto the next flight, then when you arrive try and find out which flight your luggage ended up on, and all that after the flight from Aus. Take the pressure off yourself a bit and put yourself on the next flight - its just one less thing to worry about :)

Just phone b.a they assured me that I have plenty time to get my next flight hmmm lol I aint too sure. They said it would take 1 hour. So if the plane is on time and arrives at 5.30am from Sydney, I have 1 hour 20minutes.

Well, its up to you, but having flown into Heathrow at that time of the morning more times than I care to remember, I would say a scheduled 5.30am arrival could easily become a 6am arrival.........your call, but I know what I'd rather do :)

We've arrived at Heathrow twice now at this time in the morning, and have managed to make the Glasgow Shuttle once.

Don't stress yourself trying to make the flight - Heathrows very busy at that time in the morning. There's a big BA service desk when you enter T1. They'll bump you on to the next Edinburgh Shuttle.
