Avoid Rental Hotline, even though they specialise in rentals my experience of them is they are totally useless! The amount of propertys we booked in to view with them 60% of them they didn't even show up for the viewings! So we just avoided them!
We're renting from Richardson & Wrench who are good and our experience of Ray White was always good too.

We are renting from Ray White too, in north Brisbane, and have had no problems - very helpful in fact.

I love Paddington it's a great suburb, difficult to describe a bit alternative I guess. Great transport links to the city and beyond, close to Rosalie with all the lovely restaurants, a lovely open air pool dow the road it's great. Only issue is that it's difficult to find reasonably priced rentals they are either really expensive to dead cheap but not that nice. But if you keep at it something comes along it did for us.

Hello,

I found the agents to be quite poor over here. You need an appointment to see a 'property manager' who are like Gods. Otherwise you end up speaking to a receptionist who typically hasn't seen any of the properties and doesn't know the area at all. The only help they're willing to give you is to point you in the direction of a lettings list (which is usually out of date). And they don't take you out on visits, you have to meet them there so you need a car. And quite often, you can only visit when they are having an open day. LJ hooker in Paddo on the otherhand just give you the keys to the property and tell you to go by yourself!

Having said that, I have found Ray White to be the most helpful.

The agents next to the gelateria in Rosalie (opposit Gregory Park playground) are very nice as well. We saw a fantastic place with them in Paddo and almost put in an application (in order to bid on a property, you need to fill in a form, provide references and pay a weeks rent up front!). In the end, we changed our minds because the property was much like what we had in the UK - 3 beds, fairly small, terrace but no garden. Thts the thing with Paddington; it's Urban living and although its a great area, you pay a lot and don't get much. We decided that we came out here for the outdoor life and therefore went a little further out (Bulimba) but got a massive house.

There's not much on the market at this very moment and lots of the stuff available from Paddington agents are actually not in paddington (we were sent out to the Gap by Ray White which we found was miles and miles away).

My recommendation is to look around Paddington and then compare it with areas a little further out - New Farm, Bulimba, West End,St Lucia - and decide whether you want the location or the space.

If you need any help or advice regarding Bulimba, let me know.

I'm sure you've checked out realestate.com.au, also look at the indiviual agents sites in the relevant suburbs. Eplace in Bulimba for example had some decent places last week (thats the name for Foxtons out here).

Very useful post. What did you take with you for references?
