Let hear it for leave loading
I have no idea how it works, but you go away on Holiday & get paid a bonus for it 
Had never even heard of untill I went Permie a few months back.

I got a day off yesterday as a 'Union Picnic Day' and I'm not even in a Union!
Oh yes, and I get more money when I go on holiday 'leave loading'
I beleive it comes from the time when hourly paid workers had overtime top-ups and being on holiday meant that they did not have the chance ot earn overtime that day.

It used to be standard practice in some British industries years ago.
