The Legend that is Gary Ablett.

So when you read the subject did you immediately think of:

Gary Ablett the legendary Geelong Cats Aussie Rules star.
A fabulous exponent of all the skills necessary to dominate Australian football for almost a decade, Gaz was a player who had the capacity to thrill the fans more than any player - bar none!

Or Gary Ablett the legendary Liverpool FC.
The strong and unfussy defender who was a regular in the all-conquering Liverpool team of 1988.

Geez, how some threads descend into anarchy! :D

If you were trying to enter Melbourne on an Australian passport and they suspected you were a bit sus they might ask something like who is Gary Ablett. If you couldn't answer (or said Liverpool/Everton defender they would know you were sus) :D

There are two Gary Abletts.
Both ex sportsmen.
One in UK and one in Aus.
The first two selections in the poll.

I prefer to think of him as an Everton Legend rather than being associated with the RS.

In the same way as Peter Beardsley.

;)

OMG my best friend lives in Garston - you are probably her neighbour.

Yes, I'm a very naughty girl going clubbing in Watford. I shall just say 'The New Penny' and you'll know what sort of girl I was. :scared:

Peter Beardsley was a Carlisle player ;) When I saw him play for Carlisle I said to my workmates he will play for England one day and they said yeah, yeah, yeah.

Never heard of the scouser one but here there are 2 AFL Gary Abletts, Senior and Junior, a bit like on the American Chopper show.

Alan Collett Sep 28th 2005 6:20 pm

Re: The Legend that is Gary Ablett.

You guys should come down to the Hickey Stand at Kardinia Park and ask the question.

Gary (senior) is (or was) GOD! He kicked 9 goals in the Grand Final against Hawthorn in 1989 and Geelong still lost.

He is very elusive these days after his troubles of the past, but was in the back row of the Hickey Stand a few weeks ago when Nathan Ablett played his first home game (against West Coast) I recall and he played an excellent first quarter, kicking 3 goals. Gary (junior) also played superbly and WC were spanked.

Go Cats!

And a Gary junior piccie ... the ladies seem to love him here in Geelong ...

Re: The Legend that is Gary Ablett.

Ive not heard of the Scouser one either.
Unfortunetly I missed the great Gary Ablett of the Cats in his heyday but his son is a pretty exciting player to watch.
