Default legal age for driving

Can anyone explain how it works in Australia for learning to drive. I have a 16 year old, when will she be able to drive in Brisbane?
Thanks

Brisbanes 16 years and 6 months for the learners permit which is 30 simple questions, she can then drive around (even with a car load of passengers), as long as one is at least 17 and passed the full test. They dont even need to display a L or P plate.

17 can take test and drive without anyone else at all.

Some states and New Zealand are as young as 15.

Based on the driving around Sydney, I think the legal age must be around five!

Despite all the rules and regulations, tests etc, I have seen so much irresponsible driving here.....

It is done on a state basis. In NSW the supervisor must hold a full license. That means the supervisor must have held their Ls for 6 months P1s for a year and P2s for 2 years, so they must be at least 19 years and 6 months old.

For NSW

http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/licensing/...ex.html?llid=1

Learner drivers must:

  • Be supervised at all times by the holder of a full Australian driver licence.
  • Have L plates displayed conspicuously at the front and rear of the car (or an L sign on the roof) when driving. If placing L signs on windows, they must be held against the glass, be displayed conspicuously in the lower left-hand (passenger) side of the windscreen and on the lower left-hand side of the rear facing window and must not be placed on any other part of the window area.
  • Observe a maximum speed limit of 80 km/h.
  • Not tow any other vehicle.
  • Not exceed zero blood alcohol concentration (in effect, this means you cannot drink before driving).
  • Not supervise another learner driver.
  • Only carry the number of passengers that can be properly seated in seats and restrained by approved seat belts or child restraints.
  • Only drive a vehicle with a seat belt fitted to the driver's position and wear the seat belt.
  • Not drive with any passengers in or on the boot of the vehicle.
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements is an offence and carries heavy penalties, including loss of licence.

From Qld Transport website

http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/qt/d...5?OpenDocument

You can apply for a class C (car) learner licence when you are 16 years and 6 months old.

Conditions for learning to drive a car
-Comply with any conditions shown on the learner licence and drive only the type of vehicle stated on the learner licence.
-The learner licence is valid for one year.
-Always carry your learner licence when you drive.
-Show it immediately to a police officer upon request.
-Do not drink alcohol and then drive. You must have a zero blood alcohol content if under 25 years of age. You will face severe penalities if detected drink driving. For more information, check out the anti-drink driving page.
-You can drive a motor vehicle up to 4.5 tonnes GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) which carries 12 people or less on a road.
-You must drive with someone who holds and has held for at least one year an open driver licence for that type of vehicle ie. min 21 years old

Looks similar to NSW Bondi, except that you dont have to display an L plate.

Whilst down in Victoria:

You must be at least 16 years old to obtain a car learner permit.

-Accompanying Driver

The holder of a car learner permit is required to have an accompanying driver seated beside him/her. The accompanying driver must hold a current:
* full Victorian car driver licence or
* non - Victorian car driver licence (including overseas licence) that has been held for at least two (2) or more years for the category of motor vehicle being driven by the learner driver (ie. has held a car licence for at least two (2) years if accompanying a car learner driver).
