Leaving Tomorrow....
Just a quick note to say thanks to all for the advice/help over the course of the last months. We are flying out from Heathrow with Cathay Pacific tomorrow at 6ish, stopping off in Hong-Kong for a night, and will arrive in Sydney on the evening of the tenth. John Masons packed everything up at the beginning of last week and loaded it into a container; won't see all that for a while now
Looking forward to meeting whoever is coming to the get-together in Sydney on the 20th, and good luck to everyone still in blighty!
Piers.

Re: Leaving Tomorrow....
Hi all,
Made it....finally.
Been here for 3 days now. Currently living in a "compact" (i.e small!) 2 bed unit in Wollstonecraft/Crows Nest area of North Sydney. Still, can't complain as my employer to be is shelling out for it for the next 2 weeks! Quite a nice area to be honest; never really spent any time around here last time we were in Australia.
Last few days have been spent sorting out all the essentials like banks etc; was really nice getting the train into Wynyard and wandering around the city; it's a while since we were last here but everything was still pleasantly familiar.
We're currently looking for a more permanent rental solution somewhere on the North Shore; made the mistake of walking yesterday from Lindfield station to East Lindfield. Jesus, that was a trek pushing a pushchair and dragging a 5-year-old So we basically decided we had our priorities all arse about face, and went over to Brookvale to buy a car (coz it's on the way to Manly and we promised the kids some beach time). Should have it next week after the NRMA have done their inspection. Fortunately, the salesman we bought it off gave us another car to use until we pick ours up! how nice is that!? Even picked us up from the Warringah Mall when we got off the bus (obviously smelt the dollars). Can't see a UK dealer EVER offering to do that!
Manly was great and has thrown out plans regarding permanent domicile completely awry. Really fancy living out that way, but I have to be in the CBD every day as of March 1st, and I understand that the buses can be a bit of a nightmare sometimes - especially over the spit bridge in the morning. Still, we'll see; there's always the ferry....
Going to check out Gordon, Pymble etc next week; hopefully the trains will be running this time (closed for repairs yesterday as far as Hornsby).
Sure this all sounds pretty familiar for those of you there already, and for those of you still waiting; it's well worth it. Now I just need to get rid of this feeling of being on holiday.....
