Learning to drive on a WHV
Hi. Things are finally coming together and I'm finally saving money to go to Australia on a working holiday visa.
My question is, can I learn to drive IN Australia whilst I'm on that visa?
I was going to do it over here (UK) first but I just want to get there ASAP, and learning over here will make the whole thing take so much longer.
Cheers.

I cant see why not but obviously you will be issued an australian drivers licence. I got mine when I was on an ETA but never had to do the driving test etc. Just went to Vic Roads and swapped my german licence for an aussie one. This was 4 years ago though.

I'm not sure about other states but learner drivers here have to complete 100hours of supervised and log-booked practice before they can take the test. So you would have to have an Australian licensed driver with you prepared to do 100 hours of lessons/practice.
Might be easier in the UK!

Some states - eg NSW - now have restrictions on temporary residents getting a drivers licence.

i swapped my irish learners licence for a australian one , due to this i just had to sit the theory then could sit for my test. I passed test , got P licence then swapped that licence for full irish licence on return . then swapped irish for uk licence.

Would it be possible for you to post the email address here? I've had a look around the website and can only find a form you have to fill in, which also requires you to enter an Australian address. Not too handy when you don't have one.
