At last we are here!!!!!
 

Hi Everyone,

I am new to your forum and have just moved from the UK.
We are in Cleveland. Is there anyone nearby? Can you suggest any places to take a 5 and a 8 yr old (without sharks!!!!)

Thanks for answering. We have been here for 6 wks and love it! Very stressfull though but it is all coming together now. How long have you been here? We do know of lots of places to take the kids but just, really came on to say hello. :D

You are right I am not known for my patience just excited about being here at last. The swirl of the last 6 weeks is finally coming to an end and I can think again at last and have some spare time for once in I dont know how long. And, yes Cleveland is a quiet gentle place to live, just up my street. :p

Hi squirrel, glad you are settling in well. Can you tell me how you find it out there for the children, my friend says its not very child friendly out there and that it is frowned upon to see young children out after 7pm???? :eek:

Have found everyone here so far very friendly,no probs with kids,far more laid back than the uk

Just like to add that in shops the kids are kept entertained whilst we are shopping. The places we eat are always very accommodating for lots of different tastes. And as I have said the people are far far friendlier than in the UK. Hope that puts your mind at ease. However, as my kids are so young and are in bed before 8pm I dont know how people react to kids at night.

Welcome to the madhouse!
There are loads of members down the Bayside (sometimes seems like half the forum!) - start with Mrs Dagboy and A Dogs Life, and keep going!
However, being Queensland they all like their bed early - thee and me may be the only Queenslanders awake, so you might have to cultivate some patience till tomorrrow!! In the meantime try searching on Cleveland or Bayside and see what you come up with.... (I'm in Aspley by the way, other end of town :) )

Thanks for that Squirrel. It has put my mind at ease. Was thinking if its not child freindly then I will just have to leave them at home in UK with MIL and go to Oz by ourselves...... (only joking! :D )

Not all of us!!lol Although Cleveland is well known for its nightlife(get chucked out at 11pm) I am up because I can't sleep...can't seem to get into that side of Aussie life...who the hell gets up at 6am by choice?

Cleveland is a great place to live, we have been here for 10 months and have a 9 and a 7yr old, we take our kids out to eat most weekends after 8pm and there are always plenty of other kids around.

feel free to contact me, I know a few people in this area with kids of a similar age.

It was that last glass of wine last night that sent me to sleep so I am sorry that I missed your reply. My 8 year old son, Adam, is really missing his friends and would love to meet kids of his own age rather than having to play with his little sister. They will be starting Cleveland school on the 23rd so it would be even better to have met the kids that they will be starting with. (Adam is very nervous)

My thoughts exactly but the rest of the Aussie family think I'm mad! Can quite happily stay up till 3, then sleep till 10....they are all up like idiots at 5 and worn out by lunchtime!! Mad as hatters the lot of them! :D

Our children go to Ormiston SS, I know there are quite a fe english kids in Clevland SS so I am sure they will be fine, we could maybe try to arrange to meet up next week with the kids, have a friend who has a son who is 8.

Pollyanna...they really are mental we are the sane ones I got up late and my mum who is visiting had done all of my ironing who sayd visitos are rubbish..not me.lol

We would love to meet up! Our kids are sick of hearing the sound of our voices and need friends of their own ages. Also it would be great to speak to people who have been through the stresses and tribulations we have had. You may be able to teach us a thing or two...
When and where.. our time is our own at the moment..?
