I was going to buy one in Singapore at the stop off. I heard you can claim the tax back at the airport, then dont declare it in Aus = mega cheap.
Throw the box away and stick it in a lappy bag.
I took one on holiday last year and had no problems.

Depends on your capacity for risk I suppose, but how humiliating to get stopped on your way through to start your new life, and you get caught smuggling a lappy.

i took our laptop as hand luggage on the plane and had no probs at all except when going through the security check in brisbane airport we had to take the battery out, as they were doing bomb checks, no questions asked at all about stuff being brought in being less than 12 months old and we had stuff still in wrapping, as they were wedding presents for the wedding we were attending 3 days after arriving. no one asked so we didnt tell them!

Oh, we got nailed in Oz for a couple of things, which I mentioned on the earlier thread. As we were paying up to customs, we said, we had been told it would be ok by the Sales people in Singapore airport.

"Yes, thats what they tell everyone"
