Re: Ladies question

I had treatment for high risk abnormal cells back in April. I am due a followup appointment now for follow up treatment. I called the Royal Womens Hospital here, and they told me they cannot fit me in for a colposcopy until the end of September. I asked them, if I went to a doctor and paid privately could I have the colposcopy done sooner? the hospital told me I would still be refered back to them, as they are the only unit in Melbourne that have the equipment. I have not been feeling well, and am losing alot of weight dramatically [have dropped two dress sizes in the space of 3 weeks], I told the nurse my concerns, she told me I still had to wait until September. I hope that whatever is going on with my health is not down to my condition or anything serious.

That doesn't sound quite right to me...

I had a colposcopy performed in my gynaecologists rooms (in Sydney) years ago - so the equipment can't be so rare that there's only one in the whole of Melbourne

I only know what the nurse told me.
If I could have treatment done sooner I would, and pay for it too.

Just found a specialist Colposcopy clinic in Melbourne:

http://www.epworth.org.au/epworthfre...er-clinic.aspx

Give them a ring and ask them what they suggest. You might need to get a referral to them from your GP - but anything is better than waiting months if you're worried.

Good luck. :)

If you're not bothered who has a rummage (and let's face it, once we have kids, most of the medical profession have had a ganders anyway) and if you're not due to have one yet, then leave it.

I think mine's due next month. I'll ask, they can only 'yes' or 'no'.

Women don't have private areas, the whole world sees it.

[QUOTE=LauraC;5061638]Bugger! I'll be 26 when I get to Aus so I'll be a month or 2 too old to get the free vaccine! Although saying that doesn't it only protect again 4 forms of HPV?

Actually you can. The vaccine is only licensed for those 26 and under. The treatment takes about 3 goes and 3 or 6 months to complete. You must complete the course of vaccines BEFORE you are 27. Unfortunately I turned 27 the week before it was made free so I couldn't get it but by the sounds of things you'll be fine

I'm 26, and have about eight months of 26ness left - but I've never been to a doctor in Australia. Can I just rock up somewhere and sign up for this freebie, or would I have to pay for some sort of registration consultation and then for each appointment afterwards?
Does anyone know anything about these vaccines, eg what research has been done, what the risks are etc?

Re: Ladies question

Hi,

I had a colposcopy at St Vincents in Melbourne about 3 months ago. I didn't mean to go to a Private hospital. I'm now torn between seeing the same doctor... and trying to go to the Royal Womens or whatever its called in Melbourne. I've seen about 7 different doctors now - or rather they've seen me :o (including one in Poland who didn't speak English! that was fun). I've been having ongoing colposcopies/treatments for the past 5 years... and so I know this is an ongoing thing for me.... so I don't really want to be going privately... and I just want ONE doctor!!!

Anyone know what the Royal Womens in Melbourne is like for colps? Can you just ring up to make an appointment. I need my next colp in November.

Thanks
