Re: Ladies question
I had treatment for high risk abnormal cells back in April. I am due a followup appointment now for follow up treatment. I called the Royal Womens Hospital here, and they told me they cannot fit me in for a colposcopy until the end of September. I asked them, if I went to a doctor and paid privately could I have the colposcopy done sooner? the hospital told me I would still be refered back to them, as they are the only unit in Melbourne that have the equipment. I have not been feeling well, and am losing alot of weight dramatically [have dropped two dress sizes in the space of 3 weeks], I told the nurse my concerns, she told me I still had to wait until September. I hope that whatever is going on with my health is not down to my condition or anything serious.

I had a colposcopy performed in my gynaecologists rooms (in Sydney) years ago - so the equipment can't be so rare that there's only one in the whole of Melbourne  |

I only know what the nurse told me.

You might need to get a referral to them from your GP - but anything is better than waiting months if you're worried. Good luck. :) |

If you have a nurse who you are comfortable with and they will do it for you even if you are not due one (my practice wouldn't do mine because it was something like 2 months short of when I "should" have had it done) then do it before you come. If you're not bothered who has a rummage (and let's face it, once we have kids, most of the medical profession have had a ganders anyway) and if you're not due to have one yet, then leave it.

[QUOTE=LauraC;5061638]Bugger! I'll be 26 when I get to Aus so I'll be a month or 2 too old to get the free vaccine! Although saying that doesn't it only protect again 4 forms of HPV?
Actually you can. The vaccine is only licensed for those 26 and under. The treatment takes about 3 goes and 3 or 6 months to complete. You must complete the course of vaccines BEFORE you are 27. Unfortunately I turned 27 the week before it was made free so I couldn't get it but by the sounds of things you'll be fine |

Re: Ladies question
Hi,
I had a colposcopy at St Vincents in Melbourne about 3 months ago. I didn't mean to go to a Private hospital. I'm now torn between seeing the same doctor... and trying to go to the Royal Womens or whatever its called in Melbourne. I've seen about 7 different doctors now - or rather they've seen me :o (including one in Poland who didn't speak English! that was fun). I've been having ongoing colposcopies/treatments for the past 5 years... and so I know this is an ongoing thing for me.... so I don't really want to be going privately... and I just want ONE doctor!!! Anyone know what the Royal Womens in Melbourne is like for colps? Can you just ring up to make an appointment. I need my next colp in November. Thanks |
