This wasn't my idea!! I don't know if there's anyone who knows me well enough here to care, but here's our latest addition. Born 25 May, right on time, 8lb 7oz, our third son.

It wasnt your idea that he be born? Might have ended up a tight fit if he'd stayed in there ;) .

aaahhh, thanks guys, wondered if anyone would reply. Actually I mentioned the baby in a post on 'the other site', but can't post a pic, so someone suggested I did it here. But I guess there's a few of you who know my name. For those coming out to NZ pre-baby years, this is a great country to have your children. The options for antenatal care are great, and the hospitals are great (in my experience anyway - 3 times). I was transferred soon after having this baby to a smaller maternity unit in Napier and I was the only one there. I had 2 nights of being pampered, en suite bathroom, and 24 hour care. The nurse through the night was only too glad to have my baby for a few hours while I slept. I wish she could have come home with us!!

Anyway, better go and do the baby thing........

Of course we care - well I do, especially when there is a baby piccie involved.

Congratulations, he is beautiful - what's his name - I am looking for inspiration for my 3rd?

Hello Daisy and big congratulations to you and your family.

What a coincidence that i decided to log onto this site- as it's been a very long time since i've been on this site. your post is very relevent to me right now.

I found out that i am 5 weeks pregnant and i have many questions regarding maternity stuff in NZ.

Also I was wondering if you have family out here? This is my biggest fear at the moment. Will I be able to cope without my family when we have this baby.

We came out here in October 03 on work visas and are currently thinking about residency and buying a house. I'm getting very worried about the whole thing now that I am pregnant. My parents are a big factor in my life and i miss them very much.

I won't make this too long!

Anna.

DianeOz - We have Joe, Ben and Mark. We obviously like the shorter names but we also wanted one this time that wasn't going to be too popular, we know lots of adult Marks but no little ones. I also wanted a different initial for each and different vowel sound!! I liked Finn but over here they say Ben like Bin (!!??) so the two names would sound the same (even though they'd sound quite different in England). Are you having a third boy?

Anna - congratulations on finding out you are pregnant. Are you feeling sicky yet? You sound like you are already in NZ, have you got a midwife yet? I do have family out here now, but I didn't have when I had my first baby - altho I am married to a kiwi so I had all his family around. Everyone is different with this, I know many people who have their children here without family in NZ and they do okay, I was fine but I missed my parents and friends alot. I emailed photos and sent videos all the time. It seemed like I videoed everything he did so I could share it with someone. It was quite stressful in some ways. And I am thoroughly enjoying having my Mum and Dad here this time round. But the maternity care in New Zealand is excellent, I can't fault it, I feel so lucky to have had my babies here. I'm in Hawkes Bay, I don't know what it's like elsewhere around the country. I think it was HiddenPaw who decided to go back to the UK and have her baby so she could be with family (hope I have that right), maybe she could add her thoughts on here too, I think it's a really personal thing. Some will be fine out here on their own, others will find it really hard.

Anyway, congratulations again, if you want you can PM me.

Hi Anna
Daisy is right...twas me who came back to the UK at 6 months pregnant - it was our first baby, and we knew zilch about babies so we wanted to be with family. It meant leaving Oz prematurely but family support has proved invaluable.

Feel free to drop me a line if you want to chat... otherwise, best of luck with the pregnancy!

DaisyNz, you made me laugh with the bin thing, my friend has just moved to Auckland and her daughter is saying pin for pen and I thought "wots all that about"!

I think I'm having a boy - well - we saw huge dangly bits on the scan :scared: so I too am looking for a name that goes with Elliot & William but has a different initial and sound.

Good luck Anna by the way :)
