It wasn't that she couldn't swim, it was the fact that her body had become cocooned in her kite and its gubbins that rendered her helpless

Widdi, nice spot:)

I took it up back in February and found the getting up and riding the hardest part. I had been powerkiting in the UK for a few months previously, so I had all the kite knowledge which is vital if you don't want to injure yourself. I'm now at the stage of just up and riding and it feels good as anyone else who's into the sport will tell you. I started learning on a lake up here on the Sunshine Coast and the water depth doesn't get deeper than a couple of feet which definitely helps with confidence, positioning your board etc., so I'd recommend finding a lake/dam or river mouth where the water depth isn't too deep to start off with before attempting to hit the surf.

They do the same brands Naish which is great and there are plenty of places and guys to give you lessons, so when you arrive here you can stuck into it to your hearts content....(dependent on weather of course...)

Aaahhhhh, fond memories of Flag Beach :)

You can get a new set up(board, kite, harness etc) for around $2200+if you shop around and bargain. It is easy to pick up good 2nd hand gear if you want.

Kill You-so will lots of things- Take some lessons and you will be fine.

Good site for gear and info..... :)

Just to add to this....

If you intend to buy 2nd hand gear - ALWAYS make sure you know what you are buying!!!!

Get some good advise and don't buy any old crap just because it's cheap!! As someone else said, this sport 'CAN' be dangerous!

That's no problem, youll just need bigger kites (unfortunetly more expensive). Fitness is more important that weight, but youll find youll get into shape pretty quickly, although depsite the three years Ive been doing it I still feel pretty stiff after a long session.

Probably the best place for you to go to get info is www.kiteboarder.co.uk - its a uk forum with quite a few resource links etc (and quite a bit of second hand kit).

Hope this helps
