hi all...am moving to aus from the uk in a few weeks....have heard pots and pans are really expensive in aus...is this true? worth buying from here and shipping over? what do you all think. thanks:)

Currently back in the UK and I actually have "Asda frying pan" on my shopping list - had a small one that cost me 50p about 3 years ago and its just given up. Much better quality for the price :thumbup:

If you have space take all you can!

We brought all our kitchen ware with us. If you have a container anyway might as well put all you can in it. If you don't need it when you arrive then sell it on Gumtree!

When we bought our Induction Stove and cooktop we bought Ikeas 365 7 piece cookware set for 50 bucks and haven't felt the need to change. It was supposed to be a fill in measure until we got something better, but seems to do the job really well.

Pack it all in if you can if still in good condition, but no, you can get low, good and high quality pots and pans here without being too expensive. Just shop around.

Good quality kitchenware here is very expensive so bring as much as you can.

I've seen frying pans for $200 in kitchenware shops and Jamie Oliver pan sets for $800 in Myer and that was the sale price !!!! Who on earth pays that for pots and pans ?

I was looking for a good quality sauté pan with a lid. Cheapest was $120 in a sale. But you can get good bargains in the sales for quality stuff in Myer. I bought a 32cm sauté pan with lid for half price -$80-from Myer a couple of weeks ago. Target is also good for kitchenware when half price. Coles often sell quality baking tins and kitchen utensils for half price.

So for the OP, another thing to learn is all the differing shops and how to equate them to UK versions! :)
David Jones = Debenhams
Myer = M & S (without the food)
Target = Asda (without the food)
Coles = Tesco (without the clothes)
Woolworths = Asda ( without the clothes)
Harris Scarfe = Don't know but it has great sales on (seemingly all the time) with a good range of kitchen ware and Curtains/bed linen.

I shopped in both Coles and Woolies as I like a change and what you found in one shop you could not buy in another. I think Tesco and Asada are the same, I much prefer Sainsburys,M&S Food, Morrisons and Aldi have a good choice. I have heard Aldi is on its way to Perth which will only be a good thing, more competition and choice.

I usually shop in Coles. Today I went to Woolies to do my shopping for a change and for comparison. Won't be doing that again. It was more expensive, and had far less choice. BUT the quality and choice for fresh stuff (fruit & veg, deli, bakery, fresh meat) was better than Coles.

But I tend to use the local butchers and grocers for my fresh stuff and so will revert back to Coles for the general shopping.

IMO Woolworths is like Morrisons. Very similar experience in the UK in that the fresh stuff was better quality and choice, but the rest was pretty poor, and more expensive.

Hated Tesco in the UK and was an Asda shopper. Don't think there really are any equivalents here.

But, perhaps the shops differ in different areas/states?

It will be interesting to see what Aldi will be like when they finally make it to SA.

There are Coles stores that sell clothes, I think it may be restricted to the larger redesigned shops.

kitchenware from kmart is cheap but quality stuff is more expensive. However you will be waiting months for your stuff, I found I went out and bought a lot of stuff as I needed it immediately and then had 2 of a lot of things when my boxes finally arrived ;)

lol...well I was merely trying to offer up a simple guide for the OP. We all have our grocery shopping preferences.
