Default Kit homes

i've been sulking about the fact that aus house prices are rising and I am at risk of not even getting on the housing market in Australia...at this rate I will have to buy 75 pc of a unit.

however did you know you can buy a small plot of land - and then build a kit home -

I did a search for kit homes on yahoo aus.

http://www.valleykithomes.com.au/homes.htm

you can build a 5 bed house for 72KAUS and a 3 bed room for say 40K AUS.....all depends on how far you want the builder to build it - lock up stage, floor stage, lining stage, final fit stage - you could for example finish bits yourself..

They all seem to have x bedrooms, bathroom, WC, laundry..the bigger ones have rumpus rooms..***** me days they even chuck in the oven!!

worth a go.

Can anyone comment on the quality of these - and their future salebility. Do aussies look down on them - are they a liability? Might they fall over in a storm!!!??

Steve,

I saw a program on Sky a couple of months ago about a family in Australia that built a kit home. It wasn't up to UK type building standards, but looked very good for the price.

If money is tight, go for it mate. It's better than the blokes shack that lives under the elevated section of the M4

Regards
Karl.

Have you never watched 'Hot property' the Aussie show? They always show people building these kit homes, they are quite popular over there. They can't be too bad can they??

For $44 000 If it lasted you 10 years you would be happy!!

I remember my grandmother lived in something like this.

It was called a prefab. Constructed during the war as temporary housing.
Must be good some are still standing in parts of the country.
But as I recall you could hear the man 5 doors away having a pee.

Tony C
You go for it.
