Default Kiama

Hi, my husband is in the Navy and will be posted to Nowra next year. We lived there briefly before for a few months before coming up North, but will have to go back at some point. We had a lovely time in Nowra and met some great people but we really liked the look of Kiama to live which is still close enough to Nowra to commute.

We have a high school child and 2 primary and really want to know what it is like to live there with children. Is there enough for them to do and what are the schools like.

I would be grateful to hear from anyone with children in the area to give me some ideas.

Thanks.

I live half way between Kiama and Nowra. Kiama's a nice place - pretty touristy but fairly pricey considering. The high school's very well regarded - not sure about the primaries as my son attends school in Berry. I guess it all boils down to what you do with your time and whether proximity to Sydney is important - because if I was working in Nowra I'd be looking south of there to Huskisson or Vincentia to live.

My son went to primary school in Kiama for about a year and he seemed happy enough. It was a bit odd for him though, as he been in high school in the UK for a couple of months before we moved out, and the different start times to the Australian school year meant he went back to primary school. No idea about the high school as we moved again before the year started.

Kiama is really nice, but as Hutch said, it's expensive and touristy. It is packed to the rafters in Summer with tourists from Sydney. Must admit that I wouldn't fancy the commute up and down the Princes Highway in the holiday season.
