"just bloody typical" - an update
Remember my previous post? My buyer let me down 3 weeks before our planned departure date.
Well we exchanged contracts yesterday - with the same buyer!
After all the ranting and raving, we thrashed out a deal where we have received a proper deposit, and a completion date by Christmas.
So at least we have a done deal. Not my preferred outcome of course but we can basically go when we feel like it. We plan to stay in Britain till the end of October.
A bird in the hand..............

Brilliant - you have done well in the end. Though you must feel like wringing your buyers neck!!
Did you have to cancel the flights or were you able to change the dates?
I have all this joy to come!....

Congratulations, I'm glad it had worked out for you in the end
I will be arriving in Adelaide on the 1st November (after a stay of a month in Melbourne), so I guess I will be arriving about the same time as you!
Good luck with everything

We took the painfull decision to cancel everything quite early.
The only cost was for the flights. Instead of cancelling, we deferred at a cost of £30 each. So the whole debacle has cost me only £120. Of course the flights may be more expensive when we re-book so we will have to pay the difference, but thats OK.
We're happy now that we dont have to have viewings on the house again. When we put it back on the market, we had 3 viewings in the first two days and we were on a real downer.
Sunday 31st August will be hard as that was the date we were going, but we'll busy ourselves and start making plans again.
Its possible of course that our buyer could phone today and say he has a new buyer, in which case, we will have to go in 4-6 weeks anyway. My employer is great - I can keep working and give just a few days notice.
The longer we stay here, the better off we are financially as I dont have to pay a mortgage and a rent. I guess the catalyst will be the weather - as soon as it gets crap here and warm in Adelaide, we'll be off.
