Just arrived in Perth
Hi, me (Nicky 28) and my husband (Nic 33) arrived in Perth just over 2 weeks ago. This is our first time in Perth and Australia.
We made a decision to move to Perth to enjoy the great sunshire and better standard of living. So far we are really enjoying it and can see us settling in here quite nicely. We have found a place in Mosman Park which is ideal because we are close to the beach and the river.
We are from the Northwest of England and currently do not know anyone else here. It would be great to hear from any other ex pats or newbies to Perth to give us any advice or to socialise with.
The one thing we are really missing is meeting our mates down the pub, having a laugh and good old chin wag at the weekend after a hard weeks work which was the usual senario back home.
I am here on a sponsorship 457 visa and working for PKF accountancy firm in the city. Nic is a graphic designer and is setting up business over here and carrying on bits of work for clients he had in the UK.
Nic is really into his board sports and is really keen to learn to surf. We both have our PADI and are waiting until our dive kit arrives with all our stuff around the beginning of March so we can get out on some trips. However those sharks aren't doing much good for my emthuziasm!!!
There's so much to do here and we are glad we made the big move to this great place!

Just wanted to wish you all the best with your new life in Perth.
That's where we are heading if we ever pull our fingers out and sort a visa.
I'm a designer/illustrator and I thought I'd pass this link on for an Australian
site for Nic that is all about design in Aus and has a pretty good forum.

Best of luck to you and yours. I'm sure it won't take too long to meet some friends who you will be able to go down the pub with - I must say that's one thing that is scaring me, leaving my friends...we will get there, I'm sure. Me and my other half are going to be there in June, so keep us updated on your progress! Maybe we could meet up for that beer!!!

There's a Perth Meet-up in February, a great way to meet other expats. They are a great bunch and I'm sure will be able to give you lots of info to help you settle in.

Re: Just arrived in Perth
Thanks for all the all the responses.
It's good to know there are loads of people out there in the same boat. We've only
been here a couple of weeks and it is probably too soon to tell. But I can't see much of a down side to being here.
I often see on these pages people whining about anything from the cost of fruit to photocopying. I don't get it, I feel very fortunate to have made it here. Sure we'll miss family/friends, but Perth is such a great place.

Where hoping to get out to Australia late next year but will have to validate by a reccie sometime this year probably. Not sure on where were going yet though. Looking forward to it but very nervous about leaving everone behind like my social life as i love going out drinking with my mates and getting completely hammered.
