Jumping into the sea in QLD

Haven't been on here for a good year, but starting to get itchy feet again.
We're looking into eventually moving to QLD, and would like to know up to which town/city can you just run a jump into the sea without worrying about stingers?
I've heard and read different things, one says Townsville and up is a no go, and another says Hervey Bay and up.
Who can tell me.
We want to move to a coastal town, and since I grew up in sydney on the coast, would want to move back somewhere on the coast

thank

The Bundaberg area is stinger free, some of the coastal areas here are Coral Cove, Innes Park, Bargara, Elliott Heads, Burnett Heads, Moore Park and Coonar, not sure about anything else between Hervey Bay and here

Thought it was townsville and up.

Still dont assume you can just jump in anwhere in OZ south of that though, severe rips:eek:, bluebottles, etc

Good stuff too, we saw whales 2 weeks ago, just off where we surf:thumbup: ( Pt cartwright 1 hour north of brisbane ) have also seen a shark there, crusing along in the gutter late afernoon, just off shore:eek: tourist was saying it was a dolphin:lol:

I'd say that you only really start to be concerned from Townsville up, but it is possible to get stung as far south as CQ. I don't know if this also translates to WA.

All of that said you are more likely to die during the drive to the beach than in the water!

You should definitely be concerned much further south of Townsville as tourists can and do get regularly stung in the Whitsundays as we're always hearing about it on the news

Stacks of bluebottles washed up on the beaches down here yesterday and a woman got a sting ray spike in her foot the other day.

You can never say an area is stinger-free, as it all depends on the prevailing winds and tides.

we used to swim inside the stinger nets when we first got here, but even they are just stinger resistant so now we stick to our pool :o
