Jumping into the sea in QLD
Haven't been on here for a good year, but starting to get itchy feet again.
We're looking into eventually moving to QLD, and would like to know up to which town/city can you just run a jump into the sea without worrying about stingers? I've heard and read different things, one says Townsville and up is a no go, and another says Hervey Bay and up. Who can tell me. We want to move to a coastal town, and since I grew up in sydney on the coast, would want to move back somewhere on the coast thank |

I grew up in Rocky - we didn't worry about stingers in Central Qld but they were known to be occasionally present - a kid got stung in Gladstone by a box jellyfish when I was in high school (late 80s). I'd say that you only really start to be concerned from Townsville up, but it is possible to get stung as far south as CQ. I don't know if this also translates to WA.

Re: Jumping into the sea in QLD
Stacks of bluebottles washed up on the beaches down here yesterday and a woman got a sting ray spike in her foot the other day.

The Bundaberg area is stinger free, some of the coastal areas here are Coral Cove, Innes Park, Bargara, Elliott Heads, Burnett Heads, Moore Park and Coonar, not sure about anything else between Hervey Bay and here

You can never say an area is stinger-free, as it all depends on the prevailing winds and tides.
Suppose that is true.... Just like the old crocs that end up further south than Rocky! But they do advertise the Bundy Costline as stinger free and I havent heard of anyone getting stung.... But there are plenty of tiger sharks out there lol!!!!! |

http://uk.video.yahoo.com/watch/4389500/11775088 we used to swim inside the stinger nets when we first got here, but even they are just stinger resistant so now we stick to our pool :o |
